Window cleaner shows bravery

Window cleaners provide a vital service for many businesses and individuals living

across the country by ensuring their glass is free from dirt and streaks.

However, the services of commercial window cleaners can go further than this.

One individual in the industry recently demonstrated this in an act of bravery that has been commended by the authorities, the BBC reports.

Earlier this year, David Guest was cleaning windows next to The Jewellery Workshop in Bushey Heath, which is located near Bushey in Hertfordshire, when he witnessed a crime.

The 63-year-old saw an armed gang breaking into the premises and confronted them.

No doubt, the criminals did not factor being tackled by window cleaners into their contingency plans.

The brave individual chased the three thieves, despite the fact he was threatened with a sledge hammer.

To recognise this act, Hertfordshire police have issued Mr Guest with a certificate of commendation.

Chief Superintendent Julia Wortley said: "Although we wouldn't encourage members of the public to confront offenders in every circumstance, especially if they have weapons, we are really appreciative of David's courageous intervention."

Then, addressing Mr Guest, she added: "You stood up to three men who could easily have caused you harm, refused to back down when they threatened you and when they ran off, you persisted by trying to catch up with them."

In response, he noted that he had acted instinctively and would do it again "without a second thought". He went on to state he is "very honoured" to have been recognised in this way.

Mr Guest also said that he could not stand by and watch while the men committed such a blatant act of vandalism and theft.

As a result of his actions, which clearly went above and beyond the normal responsibilities of commercial window cleaners, the three criminals left empty handed.
