With Web-based Technology The Possibilities are "Limitless"

In a recent movie entitled "Limitless," the character Bradley Cooper is a down-on-his-luck fiction writer who only sees the limits of his life. He lives alone in a small New York City apartment. He talks to almost no one. In the throws of a severe writers block, he writes little and submits even less to his editor. One day he stumbles upon a pill that gives him instantaneous access to 100% of all of the memories and data in his brain. His limits disappear and he becomes an amazingly rich and successful man almost overnight.

Before taking the pill, his memories were like notes taken on scraps of paper then hidden in random locations that he frequently forgot. In the real world, what kind of system would that be? If you're thinking this sounds like your paper crew timesheets you are right. Recording information once on paper only means you have to transfer it into another media to allow for access and use of that information. The dreaded "double data entry," that is, recording information on paper sheets and then having data entry clerks re-enter the data again into a computer system, might seem like a limiting practice, but it is very common indeed. What's more, what kind of system is the data being entered into? Is that data then easily and quickly accessible and reported on? Can it be processed and analyzed properly? And what happens when your organization grows will your paper-based system scale?

Web-based systems are, like the character in the movie, essentially "limitless." They capture data in real time and ensure greater accuracy. They allow for real time processing of validation and other rules to ensure that data is valid. They provide real-time reporting and analytics. Web-based systems remove these severe "limits" of paper-based systems:

1)There is no ability to access data on demand.

2)There is no flexibility in either the input or presentation of the data.

3)There is no ability to perform "what if" analysis.

4)Maybe worst of all, a structured-in "limit" or lower expectation of what is possible.

If it's very difficult and expensive to do something (to try analyzing data in a new or different way) then it can seem almost impossible. Web-based systems, by speeding up the process, allow you to see and analyze your business at a higher level, faster and more accurately. Is there anything more "limitless" than that?
