They call it the rat race for a reason. When you're working a desk job from nine to five, you begin to feel a little like a rat in a cage. There's no real purpose to your being there; you're just running around in your exercise wheel, completing tasks that aren't all that meaningful, going through the same routine day after day. The amount of work you do is controlled, your hours are controlled, and the amount of money you make is controlled. Leaving this controlled environment might be just what you need to take control of your own life and live it the way you want to. Starting your own work at home business allows you to do just that.

The main reason that a lot of people choose to run the rat race instead of breaking out of that cage is that they're afraid. They're afraid of change. They're afraid that they won't be successful at running their own work at home business. They're afraid that, eventually, out of necessity, they'll have to return to the cage anyway, but that they'll be more discontent than ever. But, if you think about it, there's no reason that working hard on your own business should bring in any less of a profit than working hard for someone else. Sure, it's a risk to start your own business. But it's a risk worth taking.

They say that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. This old aphorism implies that you always want what you don't have, and that once you cross over to the other side of the fence, you'll find that the grass isn't any greener. But, sometimes, the grass looks greener because it is greener. That's why more and more people are leaving their nine-to-five desk jobs and starting their businesses. You, too, can have "greener grass" by starting your own work at home business.

All you really need to start your own work at home business is a connection to the internet, an idea that other people just like you would find interesting, and the drive and determination to make it work. If you've survived in the rat race this long, then you probably have all of those things in spades. It's only a matter of taking that initial risk and starting your own business that will act as the catalyst for you to break out of the cage that's holding you back.
