World of Warcraft Addicts
Anyone who has ever entered the online fantasy realm of Azeroth knows just how enthralling it can be. With a myriad of creatures, quests and paths to ultimate fame and fortune within the game it is no wonder World of Warcraft has become the most popular MMORPG ever created.
World of Warcraft can grab your attention and keep you so focused that you often just don't see the time fly by. Tackling the formidable creatures in Azeroth and the challenging quests can leave you a little frustrated at times but always makes you want to continue regardless of the length of time you have been playing. With such enticing and attention grabbing game play, that creates tension and desire to go further up the ranks in players, it is not a wonder the game is addictive to some people.
I'm sure you have had times in your own life when you have become very focused on one thing or another to the exclusion of almost everything else. Hopefully though this never turned into a full scale addiction but if you have experienced such a thing then you will have an idea of how easy it is for some people to get addicted to a computer game.
Due to the addictive nature of World of Warcraft, and in fact the addictive nature of video games in general, players tend to spend long periods of time online in this fantasy world. This is less of a problem for kids than it is for adults due to the internal clock and parental controls that come as part of the game.
If your child is an avid gamer who enjoys MMORPG and wants to play World of Warcraft then you can limit the time he or she spends online within the game through an internal timer.
Restricting access to a child's online WoW account is often a good idea as people who develop an addiction to World of Warcraft can sit in front of their computer playing for twenty-four hours straight!
Obviously becoming so engrossed in a video game, no matter how good it is, is not desirable and will have immediate and long-term effects on almost every area of your life. Some people have lost their jobs, lost their relationships and been unable to support themselves properly. Many of these people have to eventually seek addiction counselling to help them eliminate their Warcraft addiction.
Luckily these cases are few but some are bound to appear when 11 million people play the game. The truth about these people however is that they probably are additive by nature. There are certain personality types and people who are born with (or develop) addictive-like personality disorders. These people will become addicted to whatever they do and will most probably create stress and hardship for themselves regardless of which addiction they develop.
Having said that, World of Warcraft is unlike any other game on the market in that it can teach very valuable skills that transfer nicely into a person's private and professional life - such a team work, leadership, team building and many more!
If you use World of Warcraft properly and the way it was designed to be used you will have hours of fun and perhaps even learn some life skills in the process.
