Yellowfin Tuna Fishing: Some Tricks Of The Trade

Yellowfin tuna are among the largest kinds of tuna fish

. This is mainly the reason why most anglers love to hunt for them in the deep seas. However, some fishing enthusiasts are not only after the pride they can get in catching a large sized yellowfin - some of them are also after the sweet taste of this fish. In spite of its popularity, not every angler is successful with fishing for this kind of tuna. Many fishing enthusiasts often find it difficult to get a good so it would really help a lot that you learn a few tricks of the trade before going out to sea for a yellowfin tuna fishing trip.

Perhaps one of the main reasons why many anglers fail at yellowfin tuna fishing is that they believe that catching this kind of tuna is very much like catching other kinds of fish. You need to keep in mind that yellowfins are different. For example, most fishes like mackerel, sailfish, and marlins prefer noisy and erratic lures with strong bubble trails; yellowfins on the other hand ignore active lures and prefer to bite at quietly sitting ones.

Most anglers who are well experienced at successfully catching yellowfins use bait balls. However, they do not simply use bait balls, they use these in a different way. Yellowfins have this habit of herding bait fish into a tightly packed ball and then forcing them up to the surface, trapping them, and attacking them from below. So when you see a bait ball, stop yourself from charging through it because driving through the ball will only break up the fish, leading you to have unsuccessful bites. The best thing to do is drive around the ball, allowing your lures to pass through the area.

It would also be a good idea to use different kinds of lures. Yellowfin tuna tend to ignore larger lures. Use a range of small baits, especially those that come in pink, black, red, and blue. Oftentimes, anglers use tiny lures called bullets that come in the aforementioned colors. Also, be prepared to fight a yellowfin. This kind of tuna is significantly strong so do not make the mistake to use brute force early in the fight. Better reserve your energy and wait until the yellowfin gets tired.

There are lots of other things you will need to learn about yellowfin tuna fishing so you can successfully have bites. So make it a habit to learn yellowfin tuna fishing tricks and tips before you finally decide to sail out to the deep waters.
