We have a big problem with our health in the world today and the basic cause of it

is the fact that we are not moving our bodies enough in the way they have been designed to be moved. There has been a dramatic decrease in our level of physical activity from just 30 to 50 years ago. This is a very short time on the evolution scale and our bodies have not had time to adapt in comparison to the activity levels we had evolved to before the era of technology as we experience it today. Because signs of disease and the aging process creep up on us slowly, most of us tend to take our health for granted. We pay little attention to the consequences of things we do and do not do on a daily basis in the way of negative lifestyle habits. We forget that good health does not just happen; that it is something that must be continually worked at but we get caught up in our 'busyness' and we get lazy. We disregard the fact that good health does require a commitment to a proper exercise program that will give our muscular system the 'work' it needs to stay healthy and stimulate the 'growth and repair' hormones that continually rejuvenate our cells and tissues. Without these hormones there is decay and degeneration. For the many people that already have chronic health conditions including some major diseases like heart disease, cancer and diabetes and many others the mortality rate is 3 times higher if you live a no exercise lifestyle. So even if you are already ill it is still important that you keep your body strong and healthy. This is not something that happens on its own. You have to take some action and accept responsibility for your own health and wellbeing. We should not be handing over our health to any doctor or medication as they are there to treat our sickness. And if they are treating our sickness our health has long since been eroded away. If we were healthy we would not need them.There is not a doctor, drug or medical procedure of any kind on this planet that can build us a strong, healthy, disease free body. It is up to each of us to do the most basic requirement of our own self care and that is a proper exercise program of mostly strength training exercise. This goes a long way to preventing the single most important cause of a downward health spiral as we get older - muscle tissue loss.This negative change in our body composition (muscle/fat ratio) from disuse not only siphons away our strength and energy it decreases our metabolism (our bodies engine) downgrading us to a weaker less powerful version. It also weakens our immune system which is our amour and protection from disease. We age at a premature and accelerated rate which is not a high quality of life any way you look at it.So, get yourself started on your strength training exercise program and be assured you have more control over your health that you can imagine. Even if you are faced with a life-threatening disease the very best thing you can do is give your body the tools it needs to fight disease at any stage and having overall body strength is your number one strategy. You are never to sick or too old to get exercising.
