But don't give up hope, with a lot of work you can get your ex back, and have a better relationship than you've ever had before. These four tips will get you on the road to making up with your ex.
Apologize with no reservations - This is the most important step to getting your relationship on track. You may have to do this several times, but if you want your ex back, it's something you are going to have to do. Do not make excuses for what you've done, don't say how the actions of your ex led to your cheating, do not in any way hint that it may be their fault. Take full responsibility for what you've done.
Offer to get counseling - Tell your ex that you are willing to seek professional help in finding out why you took the actions you did. You've hurt your ex badly, but if they can see that you are doing whatever it takes to make things right, this will soothe some of the hurt feelings that they have.
Dump the other person - Continuing a relationship with the person you were caught cheating with is foolish. Your ex needs to see that you are serious, and even being "just friends" with the person you cheated with is a big no-no. It has to be proven to your ex that you have changed your ways, so go to parties and get together where your ex will be, but make sure that you go alone.
Use your support system - Your friends and family are your most trusted allies. They can assist you in learning the areas that you need to work on to get your ex back. If you can convince your ex's family that what you did was a huge mistake that you have no intentions of repeating, they will help you win the love and respect of your ex back.
