Your Guide To Cricket Clothing And Equipment

The game of cricket can be extremely fun and it is fast becoming extremely popular all over the world

. In countries such as India and Pakistan cricket is almost a 'religion' and while it is true that football is the sport that holds the world in its grip, it won't be long before cricket follows suit. It is an exciting and gripping game and there are many beginners clubs popping up for those wishing to start playing the game. Let's take a look at some of the cricket clothing and equipment that you'll need to play the sport...

Vital Equipment:

There is certain equipment which is crucial in order to be able to play the game of cricket. Let's take a look.

Cricket Bat

A cricket bat is your vital piece of cricket equipment. It is made of wood and has a long handle. It does have size restrictions however - it must not be longer than 38 inches or have a width of more than 4.25 inches. There are bats for use by children which of course have smaller dimensions. The front of the bat is flat and the back has a slender curve.

Cricket Ball

The ball is the second piece of equipment that you simply cannot play cricket without. A standard ball has a circumference of 9 inches but again, sizes vary. In terms of composition, cricket balls are made of cork, wrapped in twine and covered with leather - the leather is stitched to form a seam.

Necessary Cricket Clothing:

Cricket players usually sport a suitable shirt with collar, trousers, spiked shoes and sunglasses and a hat to protect from sun damage. To accompany these standard items of cricket clothing, certain protective wear must be worn.

Leg Pads

These are worn by cricketers when batting or acting as wicket keeper. This is because they protect the legs from the pace of the ball and any possible damage from impact. They are surprisingly light to wear but still provide the necessary protection that batsmen and wicket keepers require.

Gloves

There are two types of gloves worn by cricketers. One of these has thick pads above the fingers and are worn by batsmen while the other is larger in size with a webby area between thumb and forefinger. Wicket keepers usually sport these as they give added protection.

Helmet

This is a vital piece of protective cricket clothing and worn by batsmen and sometimes the nearest fielder to the action. This protects against serious injury should the ball strike the players head.

Where Can I Buy Equipment and Clothing?

Many retailers both on-land in online sell cricket clothing and equipment and often have a huge variety of products to choose from. It is important to remember to purchase the right sizes in both equipment and clothing. It is no good buying a full-size cricket bat for a young child, or a helmet that is too small for a fully sized adult. Think about your purchases before you spend your hard earned cash. Enjoy the beautiful game of cricket!
