If you have a history of migraine headaches are probably been told many things about what triggers them. There is probably a list in your head and things you must do in substances to avoid if you want to prevent the onset of a migraine or headache. This can seem like a very daunting task if you want to lead a normal life in this modern age.
I'm sure you have been told about the importance of staying hydrated if you want to keep migraines away. I have found this to be the hardest and fastest rule for avoiding your triggers. Drinking plenty of water does several things that are very important in squelching a migraine.
For one thing, many other triggers that most people have which trigger migraines and cluster headaches involve something that is naturally dehydrating to them. Coffee, tea, alcohol, excess sugars, MSG, and stress are all things that are naturally dehydrating. They can ll be rolled in to one big trigger which can be avoided by drinking more water.
The second important thing that drinking plenty of water does is that it oxygenates your body and cells. Breathing is not the only way for you to get oxygen. And I'll bet you have heard of techniques that train you to breathe your way through a migraine attack. This is important in that the respiration helps your brain get much needed oxygen, but the exhalation removes toxins and leaves your body in a more relaxed state.
The third thing that drinking water does is that it helps to flush and eliminate your body of toxins that could be triggers for your migraine. Not only does it flush, it also helps break down these toxins before elimination.
I am not so naive to believe that eliminating your migraines altogether will happen by drinking enough water, but I can assure you that if you neglect your health and every time you become dehydrated you are setting your self up to risk triggering another migraine or cluster headache.
Staying hydrated is just one simple, cheap, natural way to avoid getting a migraine and being on the road to hopefully relieving them for good.
