Your Number Of Quick Tips On Housebreaking Your Puppy

Whenever anyone gets a new puppy they will need to housebreak it

. If you fail to successfully train your puppy in this fashion in the first few months then you can set up some fairly bad toileting habits of life. These will become far more difficult to change as the dog begins to age and therefore it is important that you take steps as soon as you can. As such, here are some tips on housebreaking a puppy.

Make sure you are always able to keep an eye on your puppy at all times. This will certainly be even more important during the early days and don't allow them to wander around the house unsupervised. Doing this will lead them to have an accident and this will create bad associations that you will not want them to develop.

Make sure that you set up a decent schedule for your puppy as well. In most cases you will find that puppies that are younger than six months old will need to be taken outside once every hour. This can seem like a fair commitment, but you need to do it if you want your puppy to be fully housetrained.

Try to give your puppy a fair amount of time to play after they have relieved themselves outside of the home. Allow them to play around for 15 minutes unsupervised in your house but after this you need to immediately return your puppy to its crate or continue to observe them.

Take them outside after specific activities such as eating, drinking, and playing. After these activities they will want to relieve themselves and it is important that you therefore take them outside at this time. Also try to develop a command that you use when they do use the toilet so that they can associate this in the future with the activity.

As mentioned, praise your puppy and allow them a lot of playtime once they have successfully used the toilet outdoors. You should give them treats and allow them some fun times as reward.

If the puppy does have an accident inside then make sure you completely eliminate the odour of this accident as quickly as possible. Properly eliminating the odour will prevent your puppy from associating the area with toileting.
