These days, working from home is becoming more prevalent

, either as a personal choice, or through necessity. In the first instance, the Internet has opened up a wealth of opportunities to set up your very own work from home business, so people are understandably investigating this as an option to tip the work life balance in their favour. If you can avoid commuting, spend more hours with your family, and still bring a decent income in, that's got to be a good thing, surely? In the second instance, the current unstable employment situation has forced many to explore the work from home model.

The question is whether a good living can really be made from working online. The truth is that it can, but it may not work for everyone. Certainly, the skills required to carry out basic Internet marketing projects can quite easily be attained. With the number of programs now available, specialised computer skills are no longer a necessity. Even a better than average website can be built these days without any previous understanding of HTML.

The trouble is, there is so much choice out there for the budding marketer, that just finding out about the subject can be a proverbial minefield. People wanting to make quick money can be duped into thinking this is actually possible. The truth is, though, that if you want financial rewards quickly, then unfortunately Internet marketing is not the way to get it. Those, however, who want to build a long term, sustainable work from home business can achieve this.

Dedication and good old-fashioned hard work may sound boring to those who see the Internet as their road to riches. But realistically you will need these ethics if you want to make it big in online marketing - even if you just want to generate a decent income. In this business, you really do get out of it what you put in. That's not to say there aren't some great time efficiency methods you can use to help you, because there are. But any time saved should be invested into further projects, so that you can start to generate income much more quickly.

You really can succeed with your Internet-based work from home business. But, at the end of the day, it is those people (and it must be said that they make up the minority) who persist when things just don't seem to be happening who will ultimately make it. I would urge anyone to try this business. However, be patient, be prepared for failures along the way, accept whatever small rewards come your way in the first 6 to 12 months, and, most of all, 'keep the faith'. You may find that just when you thought nothing would happen - the 'miracle' occurs and the money starts coming in regular amounts, not just trickles.
