Youth Leadership Institute
One of its goals is also to help them understand themselves better so that, in turn, they could understand how the world works and how they can make their way in it.
This kind of institute usually has several activities and programs for young people. The following things are usually included as program components.
Personal development. The youth need to understand their identity, take stock of their skills and talents and learn to appreciate their background. Sometimes, a lot of youth face issues such as low self-esteem, lack of empowerment, poverty and other issues related to their identity. With personal development workshops, they learn how to overcome their negative emotions and habits and build a healthier, more balanced view of themselves. As part of their personal development, they also recognize their potential for greatness. Everybody is born into different situations. But when they realize that they have the power to change and pursue their potentials, they can actually break free from whatever chains they have and work towards a better life.
Leadership Lectures and Workshops. Young people get exposed to various leadership principles. These are tailored to their specific needs, however. This is because they have different learning dynamics compared with older folks. As such, the learning process usually involves a combination of games, workshops and lectures. As they go through this process, they will understand the potentials for leadership that they have.
Vision-casting. Visions do have power that the youth sometimes do not appreciate. But when they do, they will also create visions for themselves. This vision will grow more clearly as they go through the Youth leadership initiative. They will also learn about what it takes for the vision to be translated to reality. The youth are naturally idealistic. Vision-casting takes advantage of that idealism. Yet, it is tempered with reality.
Young people may seem fragile at times but they represent tremendous potentials for change. They are not yet jaded; not yet eaten up by the system of the society. And when they put their minds into it, they can help change the world for the better. So, if you know several young people, encourage them to hone their leadership skills by joining a youth leadership institute nearby. They will not regret the time they put into it.
