Zhongguancun Science Park was approved the establishment by the State Council of China as the first state-level hi-tech industrial zone in 1988

The main functions of the Haidian Park are Hi-Tech R & D, radiation, incubator and business center, and the other seven parks are mainly the bases for the development of high-tech industries. At present, there are almost twenty thousands of high-tech enterprises in these parks, including Lenovo, Founder and other well-known companies in domestic, as well as Nokia, HP, IBM, Microsoft totally more than 1,600 foreign-funded enterprises. The branches set up by multinational companies in the Parks have reached a number of 112 including 41 R & D institutions.
All kinds of incubators in Zhongguancun Science Park have become the cradles of high-tech enterprises to transform scientific and technological achievements. At present, mandarin classes the park has 39 incubators such as Zhongguancun International Incubator, Fengtai Technology-based Business Center, and Tsinghua Science Park, etc. The Management Committee of Zhongguancun Science Park throughout 2008 provided vouch for 340 enterprises for loans of total 3.62 billion Yuan. More than 1100 students returned from abroad founding 510 enterprises in Zhongguancun during that year.
The Zhongguancun area geographically situated in the northwestern part of Beijing city now has become the hub of prominent IT and electronics markets.
