The Littoral Combat Ship is a brand new class of ship which will have any many uses. It is a small ship designed for use in the littoral zone. This is the shallow water area close to shore. The LCS will operate close to the shoreline and in the inland waterways. It is stealthy and has a shallow draft. I see it as the answer for the way that future warfare will be conducted. The days when the navy conducts nothing but large force on force battles are almost over. Warfare now is asymetrical in nature. That doesn't mean that the big naval battles are totally over but when they are conducted they will be conducted in a totally different manner. I believe that tis ship is ideal for drug interdiction as well as against piracy in certain conditions. I think that this vessel is a good add for our Navy but some may disagree. The LCS is fast, agile, and makes use of stealth technology. It would be able to get close to an enemies coastline quickly and easily without being seen.
