Plywood is used in various types of construction activities which also involves construction of boats

. It is made up of gluing together numerous sheets of plies to give strength and durability to it. Plywood has to undergo with various processes which makes it tough to resist any of the conditions. The process involves pressing together, gluing them with strong and long lasting adhesives. The quality of the plywood is determined by the quality of adhesives.

Plywood is considered as a higher quality wooded sheet and is an alternative to wood polishing in the construction business. These have resistance to warping, shrinkage, breaking, cracking, twisting and bending.

While making a boat, there are some points that needs to be considered like weight of the wood, its strength and decaying resistance. These has to be considered while designing a boat for the client. In case client wants a lighter weight wood then only light weight wood should be used. There are various lumbers that can be used but these are also available in different thickness which also depends on the requirements of the client. Many online manufacturers make okoume plywood and other plywood which is used in constructing a durable boat.

Weight: It is an important consideration while constructing a boat. The weight of the plywood is essential in judging its performance.

Strength: The thickness of the plywood is essential to note with its strength while constructing a boat.

Decaying resistance: as the plywood used will be for boats, special care should be taken in choosing the type of plywoods. Generally, marine plywoods are used while constructing boats. These are resistant to water and can be glued to any surface easily.

The design of plywood is also essential as different specifications have different advantages which will benefit the performance of the boat. Suppose, long length of the boats have more advantage than small sized boats.

Lumber Defects

There can be different kinds of defects which can be found on the plywood. At times when people mix blemishes with other defects. A blemish on the plywood only have its effect on appearance but doesn't affect the strength of the plywood but a defect affects the strength and thereby performance of the boat. Generally, there are two types of defects:

Seasoning defects: These defects occur while removing moisture and shrinkage. The seasoning defects have different forms but most common are warping and checking.

Tree Growth: These can be due to the normal growth of the tree. These entirely depends on the lumber's species. The common natural defects which are found are cross grain in wood, decay, knots and rot.

These considerations should be kept in mind to have durability in the boat or in any of the construction, which involves different types of plywood as each type has different features and can be used for specific purposes.
