3 Business Blog Tips To Get Your Reader To Take Action
There are a number of strategies you can use to get your blog visitors to take action
. You can have opt-in forms, banner ads, contextual ads, internal links, pop-overs, pop-unders, and so on.
Regardless of which strategies you utilize, I want to suggest three business blog tips that will make it more likely that your readers will take the appropriate action. These three steps prepare the ground for your specific strategies to take root and become effective.
Tip #1. Never Underestimate the Power of a Good Headline
The most important thing to remember is that nothing is quite as powerful as a good headline. It doesn't matter what strategy you are using to get your reader to take action - if they don't see it, nothing will happen.
Your headline not only draws people into your blog post, but into your entire website. If someone lands on your homepage and none of the articles have compelling titles, they will leave and go hang out elsewhere.
There are several characteristics of a headline which you should pay attention to. The first thing you should do is make it visually stand out. Simple formatting options such as making it bold, a large font, and adding a splash of color are great ways to make it stand out.
Tip #2. Deliver an Effective Message
Once your headline is in order, you need to make sure that your article lives up to the hype. There are four basic ways to deliver your message:
* text
* images
* audio
* video.
Each of these methods has its own set of benefits and drawbacks to consider.
Text is obviously the most popular tool, which means you will need to work extra hard to really stand out.
Images are extremely powerful, especially now that the info-graphic trend and Pintrest have both kicked into high gear. Adding an image from your post will attract the eye of your readers even better than a headline.
The key is to use an image that subtly reveals the main point of your blog post and is also interesting enough for people to want to pin it on Pinterest.
Audio and video are always going to be popular, but are not the ideal solution for every situation - use them accordingly.
Tip #3. Emphasize Your Call to Action
Regardless of what your call to action is, don't be afraid to go for it.
The biggest blogging mistake (apart from not having a call to action at all) is that the call to action blends in with the rest of the post.
If your call to action blends in, you open yourself up to several different risks. The biggest risk is that it is so subtle that most readers never pick up on it. If they miss it entirely, there is no way for them to know what you want them to do.
Keep in mind that most people will skim a post before they read it to see if it is worth their time. If your call to action stands out, then skimmers may see it and take action - even if they don't go back and read the post.
A final issue is that the call to action should flow naturally from the content of the blog post. If you are sharing a story or helpful hints about a particular topic, then don't expect people to purchase an expensive product that is only tangentially related to the topic of your blog post.
As long as you give these three business blog tips special attention, each blog post will have the potential to generate the results you are striving for.
