4 Things You Need To Remember To Do When Moving Into A New Home
Whilst buying a new home is likely to be the biggest financial outgoing you'll ever make
, it will be one of the most exciting times of your life.
It can be particularly stressful, however and may lead you to not remembering everything.
Therefore, these 4 points are here to help make sure you remember exactly what you need to do once you've actually moved into your home.
1. Tell people - something that many people actually forget to do is to tell people their address, as it's not something which you will have ever had to do before if it's your first house.
Starting with your friends and family, a particularly easy way to do it is to send them a card if they've bought you a moving in gift.
And if they haven't, just make sure pick up the phone and let them know.
Aside from your friends and family, there are also likely to be several companies who you'll have to make aware of your new address. Your employer and your bank are the two most obvious and prominent companies, but then there are companies like your mobile phone carrier, car insurer and any places where you are a member, such as a gym.
2. Setup your necessary bills - one of the first things you should do when moving into your new home is to contact the supplier of all of your necessary services and setup an account and payment in your name.
Council tax, utility bills, water rates, television license and home and contents insurances are the five primary services, but then there are things such as a Sky television subscription.
3. Look at non-standard items - so you've moved into your home, told everyone your new address, setup your bills and you're getting used to living in your house.
Unfortunately, it is likely that it will soon become apparent that you've forgot things, often those which you've taken for granted in your previous home, especially if you've lived with parents.
Broadband and home phone are two of those items, as with the first, it's something that you're likely to have already assumed was going to be in the house as you're so used to it and with the latter, as we live in an age where mobile phones are a dominant piece of technology, it can be easy to forget that you may need to buy and setup a home phone.
4. Have fun - the first few weeks of moving into a new house (as well as the many weeks leading up to the move) can be extremely stressful.
You'll find that you seem to be spending more time putting together flat pack furniture, hanging up pictures and arranging your bedroom to how you want it than you do just sitting back and enjoying your new home.
Although a lot of the things you'll be carrying out are important and necessary, it's always recommended that you take the time to actually enjoy your house.
You've spent your money buying the home and therefore it would be a shame if your first few weeks of living there are negative ones.
