Queenstown. Queenstown is a great starting point for your trip from the bottom of the South Island. In the town itself, make sure you visit the Onsen Hot Pools. You might imagine you are visiting a Nordic sauna and spa as you bask in the water and breathe the fresh mountain air. These natural heated pools have been enclosed by cedar timber rooms which allow you to enjoy not only the penetrating warmth of the water but also take in mountain views that inspire awe and wonder. At night-time the deep still black sky reveals consolations you may never have seen previously.

Skydiving. The breathtaking coastal scenery surrounding Kaikoura is one thing but imagine skydiving down to it from 2 km in the air. You can do exactly that on an organised skydive which will have you freefalling at 200 km an hour before landing on the beach. Specialist instructors will guide you to a safe landing and you can be certain of enjoying an enormous adrenaline rush.

Walk the Routeburn Trail. If you're looking to get right back to nature then this famous walk in New Zealand's South Island will give you a taste of everything the landscape has to offer. You will enjoy wilderness, open plains and rainforest as you traverse the area around Milford Sound. The views at the top of the track are truly spectacular.

Fox Glacier. No trip to New Zealand would be complete without a visit to the Fox Glacier. Located on the West Coast of the South Island, the Fox Glacier is a myriad of spectacular and unusual ice formations which you can enjoy in a surprisingly intimate atmosphere. You will need professional guides to assist you but you will enjoy every minute of a half day trek.

Rangitata rafting. For an exciting twist to your trip to New Zealand's South Island, make sure you explore the beauty of the wild Southern Alps on this specialty raft tour.
