You will often come across articles about how to lose weight walking which go into great detail about foot wear, training, routines, distances and so on. The trouble is that we all lead busy lives and finding time is not always so easy. Here are a few suggestions for adding to your daily work rate without necessarily having to alter your routine too much.

If you want to lose weight and lose it quickly, but most importantly healthily and for the long term, then adding some exercise to your routine is essential. The golden rule is fewer calories in than you burn but exercise does more than that. It would take a lot of exercise to burn off what you eat daily but by exercising you convert fat to muscle and trim off your figure generally.

So here are my ideas to add that bit of extra walking exercise to your daily routine.

1) Is that car journey really needed? Can you get there by walking? If you can then why not do it. I do appreciate that some places are not exactly pedestrian friendly but if it is practical then that will add valuable exercise to your day.

2) If you already walk then why not take a longer route. When I lived in a city I used to walk through a park instead of the direct road. Pleasanter and further.

3) Use the stairs instead of the elevator. Ok if you are not accustomed to it you may have to do one flight only but working up to more will get easier day by day.

4) If you must use the car then can you park further away? On the same lines why not get off one stop earlier if you use public transport. Just a small change like this can give you a chance to stretch your legs and exercise where before you were getting none.

5) I make a point of getting out of the office at lunch time. Even if it is just a short walk to the local store it all adds up. Yet another example of how to lose weight walking by adding to your daily routine where before you might just have sat around a canteen.

6) Carrying a pedometer helps a lot. It means you can set a daily target and if you are really keen then you can keep a record.
