7 Habits of Highly Successful Students - Habit V

Habit V: Embrace Challenges

Do you fear challenges in life? Or do you shiver at the thought of examinations and at the sight of academic obstacles such as tight deadlines and difficult assignments?

Most students do. But not highly successful ones.

In fact, they embrace these challenges.

Habit V of highly successful students is really about an innate desire to create breakthroughs in life. It is about viewing challenges as opportunities for growth and as avenues to prove one's capabilities. This perception usually creates a trigger in these students' minds, one which activates their competitive nature. More often than not, such competitiveness will eliminate any fear of failure and lead to immediate action taken to overcome the challenges. This Go-Getter' attitude is the main reason behind these students accelerated advancement in school and in life.

It is no simple task to eliminate your fear for academic challenges and instead embrace them. To do so, you will have to change your current characteristics while boosting your overall confidence level. You will also need to abandon your limiting beliefs (Habit IV) and adopt a proactive attitude towards overcoming any challenges that stand in your way (Habit I). All these changes are difficult, but important and necessary.

As you advance from middle school to high school and beyond, the challenges awaiting you are going to be increasingly difficult to overcome. In other words, the obstacles that you face will make you want to give up more easily. Therefore, if you don't make embracing and overcoming challenges a habit now, your academic success isn't going to last very long.

All highly successful students know the above, and have hence made Habit V one of their most visible habits. Are you ready to do the same?
