Beginning to Build Your Email List Using Google Alerts - Frequently Asked Questions

A lot of people struggle to build an email marketing list. You have heard all the internet gurus say "The Money is in your email list" and they are correct, but when you are just starting out were do you really begin? The "big boys" have large staffs of people who do most of the work for them and they have their marketing systems already in place. Why not do what they do?

How could Google Alerts possibly help me build my list?

Depending on your niche, you can use Google Alerts to send you information when one of the Big Dogs in your niche does something. You are kind of spying on them, but more importantly you are allowing them to "Secretly Mentor" you. It is safe to assume that if they are doing something, it probably works and is most likely making them money.

What exactly do I do?

Find the leading marketers in your niche & create a Google Alert for their name. Also setup an alert for "free traffic" as it will pull down the latest blog posts from people talking about generating free traffic - Sweet! Be very careful if they have an ordinary name as the alert would pull down results you are not interested in.

What do I do with this information?

The alerts will show you "what and where" these internet leaders are marketing. Many times you will discover unknown websites that receive a ton of traffic but nobody really knows about them yet. Back in the day, I used this technique and discovered a bunch of marketers where using PDF publishing sites to market their older articles. Obviously everybody knows about these sites now, but when you can discover a new site or technique and exploit it before everybody knows about it, you should be able to profit.

While we are talking about PDF sites, how could this help me to build an email list?

You would want to publish a short 300 to 600 word PDF document. You could rewrite some decent PLR reports, use an older blog post(s) you wrote that received a fair amount of comments, and any older article(s) you wrote. By placing a link to your website at the end of the report, you will drive traffic to your site.

You can see that using Google Alerts to watch what other people are doing, will help you to learn new ways and sites to drive traffic from and build your email list.
