A Closer Look At The New Blackberry Playbook
Esteemed manufacturers RIM are attempting to make an impression on the growing Tablet market with the new Blackberry Playbook, a unit that could well take over from the world renowned iPad as the best device of its kind currently available. Media fans will be pleased with the excellent facilities on offer on the Playbook.
The device features two cameras. The first of these is a front facing affair, and where such devices are normally relatively low specification, this one boasts an excellent 3 mega pixel resolution, ample for creating a vivid and crystal clear picture quality. The rear camera improves upon this by offering a 5 million pixel camera. If you wanted to shoot video footage, then the 1080P resolution that is captured is hard to be bettered. This quality is classified as High Definition, and you need not be restricted to watching it purely on the Playbooks great display. Thanks to an HDMI port, connection to a compatible TV is easy, allowing you to enjoy your footage on the big screen. The unit supports multi tasking, and thus a good quality processor is necessary to maintain the speed that is required. The Blackberry does not disappoint on this count, boasting a dual core 1Ghz processor backed up with a hefty 1GB of RAM. A new operating system will be launched with this model. Not content with utilising the system found on mobile phones, RIM have designed new software custom built for larger displays. A down side to this is that existing applications can not be used, but rest assured there will be plenty available as the unit becomes more popular, which is inevitable given the impressive specifications. Web wise, the browser benefits from its support of Adobe Flash, giving a complete on line experience.
With units such as these, size is vital, so it is pleasing that the Blackberry Playbook seems ideal for the tasks it is set to fulfil. At 7 inches, the devices display is a good two inches larger than some tablets available such as the dell streak, commonly regarded as to small. On the other side of the coin, its considerably smaller than the iPad, a unit that is perhaps a little on the large size. This approach should serve the unit well, and also buts the Playbook head to head with the other new model available, the Samsung Galaxy Tab. The screen boasts a high resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, meaning both web pages and your own media look glorious, both sharp and full of colour. Multi Touch is supported by the screen, which is also scores highly for responsiveness due to its capacitive touch panel. Blackberry may already have a head start in the tablet market thanks to the name they have established with their mobile handsets, and this well could prove a popular choice with the business end of the market, as well as with consumers drawn to the iPad, but put off by its size and lack of Flash support
