A Floor Heating System - A Great Way to Cut Back on Your Energy Costs

No matter where you live, it is easy for your energy bills to skyrocket in the winter. A cold snap can easily wreak havoc on your energy bills. But, with a floor heating system, you can turn down your thermostat while also staying comfortable.

Heated flooring is an idea that goes back all the way to the days of Ancient Rome long before people had heaters in their homes! Back then, people used coal to warm their floors. As the floors got warmer, the heat rose, and warmed up the rest of the room.

Heating floors with coal is long gone, but the same idea is still in place today. Now, the typical floor heating system uses a network of cables powered by electricity to heat up your floors. The cables are installed underneath your flooring and are controlled by a thermostat. In just a few minutes, the cables can warm up your floors, and pass that heat on to the rest of the room. And, each room comes with its own thermostat, so that you can have different temperatures in different rooms meaning that each member of your family member can be at their own comfort level.

A floor heating system can go under virtually any type of flooring from tile, to laminate, to cement. In fact, the cables can even be installed right underneath your tiled shower!

By opting for heated flooring, your warm floorscan cut down on the time your heater spends running. After all, every time your heater comes on, it's like having money stream out of the vents! Any way that you can cut down on your heating is a good thing.

But, if you want to get the most energy conservation out of warm floors, you need a floor heating system that uses cables, instead of a hydronic heating system. With hydronic heating, you get a series of tubes placed under your floors. The tubes are filled with water; when you turn the system on, the water heats up and, in turn, warms your floors. However, it takes the water much longer to heat up meaning you have to use more energy to power the system. With a cable floor heating system, the cables heat up quickly and use much less energy.
