A Look At The Different Types Of Industrial Cladding

Many industrial units use certain types of cladding for their roofs and outer structures

Finding a roofing company that specializes in cladding can be a bit of a chore as not all companies are happy with dealing with cladding especially industrial cladding as the work is large and difficult. There are lots of different reasons for using cladding on industrial units the main two reasons are look and resistance.

There is no doubt that cladding makes the industrial unit look a lot more pleasing on the eye and more and more companies are using it to visually enhance their properties. Another use for cladding is it can be used to repair old or damaged structures and as a protective coating for the walls as well as the roof. Old industrial units tend to look dirty and uglyas a result of time and weather taking its toll on the brickwork.

An effective and more modern look is to use industrial cladding which comes in many shapes and forms and transforms the building into something more aesthetically pleasing on the eye.

Apart from providing the external appearance of the building, the main function of cladding is to protect the structure from the weather particularly rain. This may be achieved in one of three ways.

Porous materials. Porous materials such as brickwork of absorb water during rain and subsequently dry out. If the wall is of sufficient thickness and the permeability is reasonably low water will not penetrate during a rainstorm. In modern construction a cavity is normally introduced into the wall to provide an additional barrier to the passage of water.

Sealed construction. Impermeable cladding materials will only permit the passage of water at joints. Sealing the joints with gaskets or wet applied sealants provides a continuous impermeable layer.

Rainscreen. As its name suggests, the purpose of the outer rain screen panels is to shield the wall from direct rain. The joints between the panels may allow some water to penetrate but an air gap and airtight backing wall behind the panels combined to limit this penetration. This may be achieved by the drained and ventilated method in which the air gap is continuous and well ventilated to encourage drying out.

When choosing a company to install the cladding make sure they have had plenty of experience in in this field and gets a few recommendations and quotes before deciding on which company to use. Any reputable industrial roofing or cladding company will offer a free quotation so find at least three companies who are willing to provide a free quote. Always ensure that you see some previous industrial roofing or cladding works that have been undertaken by the company before you offer them the works.

Also make sure that they have up-to-date liability insurance which will cover any mishaps, accidents etc. And finally but not least find out if the company provide a warranty on the work and the materials that they will be using.
