A Review of the Sony Ericsson Satio by:Simon Drew
For one reason or another, Sony Ericsson changed the name of this particular mobile phone months after it was announced
. It was originally supposed to hit the market as the 'Idou' until Sony Ericsson recently switched it and settled with 'Satio.' The reason behind this remains to be a mystery. However, one thing we are sure of is that the upcoming Sony Ericsson Satio is set to wow the masses with its amazing features and stylish design. Below is a quick review of the company's newest Smartphone.
Good Points
With a 3.5-inch screen that has a 640 x 360-pixel resolution, the Satio literally has one of the largest screens in the market today. It's the same size as the screen of the famed Nokia N97 and is only around 5 mm smaller than that of the Samsung Omnia HD. The colour display itself is extremely vibrant and is very responsive.
We cannot, of course, forget about the Satio's claim to fame which is its 12-Megapixel camera. Although it is not the first mobile to sport such a powerful camera (i.e. Samsung M8910 Pixon12), the fact that the Pixon12 is not a Smartphone means that the Satio still gets the nod in this department. It is also a pleasure to see the return of both the xenon and LED flash on the Satio - a combo first seen in the K8510i Cyber-shot a few years back. Moreover, the Satio's camera is packed with a whole lot of features that will surely please the photo fanatics out there.
Bad Points
It is definitely a good thing that the Satio is a Walkman mobile as users will be able to enjoy this renowned Sony Ericsson application. It is however a shame that the Satio does not come with a 3.5 mm ear jack. This means users will not be able to use any standard type of headset on the Satio and will have to settle with the one supplied in the box. Moreover, the Satio's 128-Megabyte internal memory is almost laughable considering the fact that it is supposed to be a media-centric device. Nonetheless, there is always an option to upgrade this memory via the microSD slot.
The Verdict
To conclude, the Satio truly has a lot of amazing features and functions that definitely outweigh its bad points. However, the problem may be with the timing of its release which is on September. Some believe that this is a bit too late especially considering the fact that Apple has already released the iPhone 3GS. By the time the Satio hits the market it is highly possible that the competition has already caught up.
