Sony's latest 40" LCD TV is the Sony KDL40Z5500. It incorporates all of Sony's latest developments including the latest version of the Bravia engine, a 200Hz refresh rate and a 10-bit panel. We will discuss all these enhancements further and describe the benefits of each.
The Bravia has a maximum resolution of 1920x1080 which is the highest resolution that is currently available allowing this TV to flawlessly broadcast HD media in all its glory. A digital tuner and cable tuner come as standard along with the generic analogue tuner. The Bravia sync function allows the user to control all of their media devices with just the Bravia remote.
Sony have incorporated their latest version of Motionflow into this Sony KDL40Z5500 TV. It provides the television with an astonishing 200Hz frame rate, which means that 200 frames are broadcast onto the screen every single second. This helps to further decrease the effects of flicker and blur in high speed action scenes, improving the quality of sport and movies.
Sony's latest Bravia engine, the Bravia engine 3, provides improves picture performance across all media types whether that be TV, Movie or gaming. The engine incorporates full digital signal processing resulting in an immensely clear picture and life-like colors. Black levels have been enhanced so they are at their most distinct and natural. Whilst optimizes these key features the engine also automatically detects and displays the optimum picture setting for the appropriate media broadcast.
Sony have also included a dynamic contrast ratio of 1m:1 this helps to improve the black levels whilst also improving the color representation. A 10-bit panel also allows for more data to be displayed on the Sony KDL40Z5500 screen at any time whilst the live color creation feature improves the colors displayed by 30% when compared to a conventional LCD.
With applicast the user can simultaneously watch the TV whilst surfing the internet whether you want to check-out a website that's just been advertised or forgotten to make a reservation for a restaurant, all can be done without having to move a muscle.
Four HDMI have been placed on the Sony KDL40Z5500 TV 4 on the back and two on the side. This ensures that you will have enough connections to have all of your HD devices to be connected at the same time meaning no fiddling behind the TV to swap over the wires. A USB media player has been installed to allow direct playback of media on a USB stick.
The Sony KDL40Z5500 starts at around $1670.
