Instead of taking your leather item that is ripped to a professional who is going to charge you an arm and a leg to repair it, do the leather repairs yourself.
It is possible to fix up your leather by using a leather repair kit or by putting the items together yourself for the repair. This is a cheaper way of going about it as the repairs are usually not that difficult to make and are obviously much cheaper than the alternative.
To do leather repairs, you are going to need a piece of leather that matches the item that you are going to repair. You can find leather pieces at most fabric stores. If the item you are repairing is a piece of furniture, you can cut a small section from the damaged area to match the color.
The next step is to even out the area that is damaged so that a smooth replacement piece can fit right in. The best way to do this is to cut around the area in a neat circle. You can then use this to trace around a piece of paper and cut from the fresh leather to ensure a perfect fit. Don't try to just eyeball the cut as you need it to match as close as possible.
Now that the patch is made up, you can apply it to the damaged area. Sometimes, the replacement piece may look the same, but it may actually be a little fuller than the leather that you are using it with. When this happens, you can fix it by literally pounding the leather to flatten it out. Now it is time to turn it over and get ready to keep it in place.
A small piece of thin cloth will be needed as you are going to have to use this as the binder. You will apply cloth glue to the cloth and place it over both the new patch and the old leather area. Cover the area completely to more or less create a seal over both areas. From this point, apply heavy pressure for a few hours (put something heavy on the area) until the glue is completely dried and your leather is now repaired.
