Therefore, the patient might suffer from hypertension or even heart failure if the condition persists. Introduction of air into the circulatory system of the patient can cause some serious complications. It is known as air embolism and the sufferer might have difficulty in breathing along with chest and back pains. It can be particularly fatal for people suffering from cardio vascular diseases.

It is always recommended that the person, whether nurse or a household member, who is tending the patient getting an intravenous therapy must be well informed about the procedure. The slightest indication of a complication must be dealt with promptness. Intravenous therapy is not very complicated but it must be administered with care, under the supervision of a qualified professional.
