Air Conditioning and Solar Power

Solar air conditioning system is defined as any air conditioning system which uses solar power for its energy

. It is possible to make such a system by passive solar, photovoltaic and solar thermal energy conversion. It is expected that solar air conditioning powered by solar power will play a major role in zero energy and the designs of energy plus buildings.

Air can be easily passed from over common and solid desiccants like those of silica gel or zeolite so that it can draw moisture from the air for an efficient and evaporative cooling cycle. The desiccant is regenerated afterwards with the help of solar thermal energy and then dries it out in a technique that is low in cost, consumes less amount of energy and has a continuous and repeating cycle. Efforts are being made in order to eliminate such defects and making the best of a solar air conditioner using solar power.

In passive solar cooking, solar thermal energy is not used directly for creating a cool environment. Instead of this, solar building design aims at decreasing the rate of heat transfer into a particular building in summers. It also improves the removal of all the unwanted heat in the building. Such a type of solar cooking designed by using solar power is much easier to achieve in newly constructed buildings than the already existing ones.

An active solar cooling uses solar thermal collectors where solar power is generated by storing the energy. These solar coolers provide thermal energy for the working of the thermally driven chillers. The solar thermal energy system can also be used for heating water. There are many alternatives to compressor based chillers that help in reducing energy consumption. They work with lesser noise and vibration as well.

Photovoltaics which are powered by solar power can provide power for any kind of cooling which is electrically powered. The most common implementation of this is with the compressors which are a less efficient form of such cooling systems. The most common technology for cooling in the smaller resident and commercials spaces is the photovoltaic cooling which is powered by solar power. This is due to certain reasons like incentive structuring, lack of the correct size of equipment that is needed, more efficient coolers being introduced off late and is easier to install. The cost effectiveness of such coolers depends on the correct cooling equipment and also its efficient working as well as better cooling methods. The heating and cooling can be easily reduced or increased in such systems.

The advantage of the ambient temperature of Earth is due to Earth sheltering or Earth cooling tubes. These help in reducing or in fact eliminating the need of conventional air conditioning. There are undesirable amounts of heat present in many parts of the world where majority of the population lives. In such places, air conditioners powered by solar power can be installed easily and conveniently. They help in eliminating the cost of air conditioning equipment but increase the construction cost. Steps are being taken to reduce or eliminate such discrepancies and design the best of the coolers powered by solar energy.
