Formulate a business plan. You do not need an extensive overview. Simply plot out the points you want to cover. Basically you are building the skeleton of your business. You will want to consider your projected income, your customer base and especially how you will deal with competition and their strengths and possibly weaknesses.

Financial plan. Your finances are the most important part of your business and are likely the reason you have gone into business in the first place. Your customers bring in your financing, so determine how you will bring in your customers.


Financing also includes your start up costs. When you start an online business you will need to keep in mind that it will not boom over night. It will take a while to accumulate your customers and get their business.

Make an advertising plan. Word of mouth is the desired form of advertising, however it will take time to reach that form of advertising.

First you have to get your word into the mouths to be spoken. This means advertising everywhere you can afford to. In the beginning of your online business you will want to have a focus on quality advertising.

Remember that more is not always better, strategic is more likely to get you business than simply volume. The great thing about the internet is you can advertise on a number of social networking or blogging sites to get your name out there faster.

Keep your records well. As long as you know who buys what, when they buy it and how much of it they buy you should be more than ready to keep that continued business. Keeping accurate records will also let your customers know that you care about their business enough to want to keep them in the loop as far as your sales.

Keep in mind a niche you can fill that another larger business might lack. For instance a special brand of pants that Walmart or Target does not carry, but are still a great quality item.

More important than the way you start an online business is the will to do it. You should not balk at an opportunity to start a legitimate (well researched) online business. It could turn into a fruitful opportunity for you and those you love.
