Apples New iPhone 4 - Pros and Cons

Everybody has been hearing about the Apple iPhone 4 - that is the Fourth Generation iPhone - not to be confused with the latest 4G technologies

. So what does the new iPhone have that the old phones didn't and is the new phone worth the investment?

According to Apple, the new iPhone will be loaded with new features, on top of the already existing cool ones from the previous model. New features include the following:

Front-facing video chat camera

Improved regular back-camera (the lens is quite noticeably larger than the iPhone 3GS)

Camera flash

Micro-SIM instead of standard SIM (like the iPad)

Improved display. It's unclear if it's the 960x640 display thrown around beforeit certainly looks like it, with the "Connect to iTunes" screen displaying much higher resolution than on a 3GS.What looks to be a secondary mic for noise cancellation, at the top, next to the headphone jack

Split buttons for volume

Power, mute, and volume buttons are all metallic

Hi Definition Camera (5 megapixel)

Hi Definition Camcorder

Hi Definition Audio

True GPS built in

Messaging light

If you owned the old iPhone or maybe you never owned one at all and want to know what has exactly changed for the price. Changes include:

The back is entirely flat, made of either glass (more likely) or ceramic or shiny plastic in order for the cell signal to poke through. Tapping on the back makes a more hollow and higher pitched sound compared to tapping on the glass on the front/screen, but that could just be the orientation of components inside making for a different sound An aluminum border going completely around the outside Slightly smaller screen than the 3GS (but seemingly higher resolution) Everything is more squared off 3 grams heavier 16% Larger battery Internals components are shrunken, miniaturized and reduced to make room for the larger battery

So with all these gadgets, what is the downside of owning an iPhone 4? For one, there are the software defects and glitches coming from the provider AT&T. AT&T says there is a defect in their software network, therefore data uploads from the phone in some areas could take longer for users to send pictures, video and other content. In another interview with AT&T representatives, it was stated that the software glitch in their network equipment was made by Alcatel-Lucent and that they are to blame for the limited upload speeds of the iPhone 4. The upside of this problem is that Altcatel-Lucent is the only supplier of base station equipment to AT&T and the problem only affects some areas, areas that represent only 2 percent of the phone company's customer base.

Other criticisms of the new iPhone 4 includes problems with its antenna and screen which can undermine the video chat program - a feature many are primarily interested in with their upgrade to the 4G model. The complaint is that the phone's camera application locks up soon after launching, leaving the user unable to take a photo. Other users say they can use the camera but only after rebooting the phone. A third group of consumers say that even rebooting hasn't helped the problem, that the application is still frozen even after several resets.

Despite the glitches, many feel the benefits of the new iPhone outweigh the troubles and that it is the latest and greatest thing out there.
