Are You A University Bound High School Student?
If yes, you're on the right track to a bright and successful future
. But not everyone is auniversity bound high school student, and if you are unsure about higher education, it's important to take time to determine your goals and what you can do to achieve them before making major, life-changing decisions.
The first step to determining your future is to figure out where you want to see yourself, both short and long-term. Whether you are a university bound high school student or not, think about your interests and the kind of life that you hope to have. Some important questions to answer are:
What kind of career do you want to have?
If you see yourself in an office working nine to five every day, your direction is very different than someone who would prefer to be working with people in a healthcare setting, for example. Think about your strengths and how you can apply them to a future job. The kind of job you want will determine the training that is best for you, whether it be a four year university, community college, or vocational school.
How important is salary level?
Financial stability is unfortunately something to consider when determining your future. But this does not mean you should choose a future career path based solely on the associated salary level. It is more important to be aware of the average salary for the career you have in mind, and plan according. Sure, a neurosurgeon may earn more money than a social worker, but not everyone is cut for either of these positions. Determine the kind of career that is right for you first, and think about salary second.
Do you want to get married and have a family?
Many people consider marriage and family life as important, if not more important, than their career. If you see yourself raising children in the future, you must also be able to provide for them. How do you learn best?
Do you like to learn independently at your own pace, or would you prefer a small classroom setting with more attention from an instructor? Thinking about your individual needs as a student can help you determine the size of school you should consider applying to, or whether a different method of learning like online education might be best.
What is your financial situation?
Again, it's unfortunate that money comes into play, but the subject is unavoidable. If you have parental support paying for college, you may not have to research financial aid as much auniversity bound high school student who will need to cover semester bills on their own. Make sure you are aware of the cost of schools you apply to and that you also take living expenses into account. Not only that, plan for paying back any loans after you graduate by taking out loans you know you'll be able to afford.
It can be overwhelming for a university bound high school student to think about the future. The best advice is to consider your individual situation and spend time researching your options in order to make an informed decision about the education and career you pursue.
