Article Marketing Tips For Writing: The 7 Step Outline
Getting started writing an article is the most difficult part
. Your mind feels as blank as the page that you're staring at, and you're sure that if you could just get the first sentence or paragraph written that the words would start to flow from your pen more easily.
But the longer that you stare at the page, the more anxious you become--Is there any easier way to write an article?
Thankfully, yes there is. If you've been afraid that you just aren't naturally gifted enough at writing to create article submissions, you can breathe a sigh of relief. There is no need for you to wait for inspiration to strike; all you need to do is start with an outline, and then fill it in.
Creating an outline isn't as intimidating as writing an article. There is no artistry involved, so you're free to actually dig in and skip past any creative anxiety you may have. Making an outline is really quite simple once you know how to make one. This article provides article marketing tips so that you can make your own outline for your article.
Step 1: Pick your topic.
If you're having trouble coming up with a topic, an easy one is to make a Top 5 list (you can really make it any number that you'd like, so it can be a Top 7, Top 10--whatever). This is an article that will detail 5 top things having to do with your niche.
Step 2: Create a headline for your article.
The title (headline) is the subject matter of your article. It should clearly express what the article is about, but it should do so in an interesting way so that you'll attract the attention of readers.
Here are a couple examples:
"Top 5 Mistakes That New Gardeners Make"
"Top 5 Ways To Improve The Value Of Your Home"
Step 3: Quickly write down the main points of your article.
For a "Top 5" type of article, obviously you'll include brief statements of the 5 points that you want to cover. Just start writing and don't worry that your writing isn't perfect (it shouldn't be at this stage). Don't even think about trying to get your article to look like a polished article yet--just jot down some quick notes. You'll use these notes as the framework for your article.
Step 4: Put your ideas in order.
Sometimes if you're doing a "Top Tips" type of article, you can't really go too wrong in how you arrange the tips. Still, you'll probably have a sense for which tips are better at the beginning so that they can build on each other.
Step 5: Fill in the missing info.
At this point your page should be a very encouraging sight--it's covered in information that is slowly but surely forming into an article. You have all your main points on the page already, and now you just need to elaborate and flesh out the information.
Step 6: Write your opening and ending paragraphs.
These two paragraphs are easiest to write after you've already written the body of your article. You know what your article is about, so just summarize it in the opening paragraph. Introduce the reader to your topic and give an idea of what information you'll cover in the article.
For the concluding paragraph, pick a point or two to reiterate before you close. The closing paragraph doesn't have to be long--it could just be a sentence or two.
Step 7: Carefully review your article for spelling and grammar issues.
Here are some proofreading tips for you:
*Change the font, size and/or color of the article to proofread. This helps you to see your article as a new piece of content rather than the same article you've read about a million times in your head. Being so familiar with the content makes it hard to spot errors, but making it look different can fool your brain into thinking that it's reading something new.
*Print your article and read it out loud off of a piece of paper. This will give you a different perspective than reading the article on your computer, and it will help you spot errors.
*Read your article for certain types of errors, one at a time. For example, read your whole article just looking for punctuation issues. Next, read your article for spelling issues. And so on...
Ideally from start to finish this outline process would take place over several days--don't try to get everything done at one sitting, especially not the proofreading. Take your time with your article, and take the mystique out of writing by starting with a casual outline. It's extremely simple and straightforward, but it works!
