Australia vs New Zealand Cricket World Cup
Australia vs New Zealand Cricket World Cup
Australia once again exhibits its dominance in the cricketing sphere by thrashing the Kiwis with a massive 7-wicket victory. This very performance must have satisfied the skipper Ricky Ponting, who was extremely disappointed after their ordinary performance against Zimbabwe in their opening match.
However, this mere display of cricketing excellence in the Vidarbha cricket Association Stadium of Nagpur must have started to create several nightmares for the opponent teams. It was one of those days, where nothing went wrong for the "Baggie Green" unit and they eventually outshone their archenemies in every single aspect of the game.
The very decision of Ponting to bowl first was being further complemented by the outstanding performance of the Aussie bowlers. All the Kiwi batsmen felt utterly helpless in front of the deadly pace attack of Shaun Tait, Mitchell Johnson and Brett Lee. Johnson accomplished a magnificent spell of 9.1 overs, where he conceded 33 runs and picked up four important wickets.
However, it was none other than Shaun Tait, who gave the initial blow to the Kiwi batsmen. He not only fetched the crucial wickets of Brendon McCullum (16 runs from 12 balls), Ross Taylor (7 runs from 22 balls) and Scott Styris (0 runs from 4 balls), but even provided an ideal platform for Johnson to drive the last nail in the coffin.
None of the Kiwi batsmen felt comfortable in front of this dreadful bowling line up of the Aussies. It was only due to the mere contribution of Nathan McCullum and Daniel Vettori, the score crossed at least 200-run mark. The skipper Vettori played an attacking knock of 44 runs from 43 balls, while McCullum conducted a matured innings of 52 runs from 76 balls.
After a clichd batting performance, the audience expected a bit resistance from the kiwi bowlers. But once again, they failed miserably and the Aussies achieved their targeted score within 34 overs at the loss of only three wickets. Both the openers Shane Watson and Brad Haddin guided the innings meticulously and provided an ideal start for Australia.
Watson played a magnificent knock of 62 runs from only 61 balls, while Haddin (55 runs from 50 balls) catered him with all the required support. Their mere partnership of 133 runs decided the result of the game. Both Michael Clarke (24 runs from 37 balls) and Craig White (22 runs from 28 balls) did the finishing touch and it eventually resulted in a comprehensive win for Australia.
Resembling with the batsmen, the bowling attack of New Zealand also let down their fans to a large extent. The very trick of Vettori to bring himself as the first change failed to create any sort of impact on the Aussies. Quite presumably, Mitchell Johnson was being announced as the "Player of the Match" due to his excellent spell.
Both the teams wore black armbands and came to the field. It is because of the recent earthquake, which occurred in Christchurch.
