Back to School Shopping Must-Haves

Another school year is fast approaching which means now is the perfect time to gather up the kids and head out for some back to school shopping

. However, before you do so, it's a good idea to organise a list of items you'll need to buy for each child. After all, the last thing you want to end up doing is to walk around a crowded store, unsure of what does and doesn't belong in your shopping cart. Of course, schools will sometimes provide lists of required materials for students. Others, however, might not do this. If you don't happen to have access to a required supply list, it'll be up to you to provide your child with a comprehensive set of school supplies.

However, if you've never put together a school supply list, don't worry. There are various ways you can assess whether your child will need certain supplies in the classroom. To start off, consider supplies that they'll likely require in most classes for instance, writing supplies. Whether your child is enrolled in history, literature, or maths, they'll need basic writing supplies such as pencils, pens, erasers and correction fluid or tape. You'll also want to pick up some notebooks, loose leaf paper, and possibly a set of index cards to help your child study and memorise lessons.

Next, hone in on supplies that your child will need for specific classes. Good examples of this include maths and arts class. Depending on your child's year in school, he or she could require a calculator (basic or scientific graphing), a compass, or ruler for maths, while items such as markers, coloured pencils, crayons, craft paint, glue, and scissors (opt for the 'safety' variety) are standard for art classes. Know which classes your child will be enrolled in before going back to school shopping, so that you can pick up all the appropriate supplies he or she will need.

Lastly, you'll want to consider a variety of organisational and supplemental school supplies including book covers, folders, binders, dividers, report covers, hole punchers and staplers. Don't forget about a durable backpack to carry all their essentials in, as well as a reusable (and preferably insulated) lunch bag or box to keep their lunch fresh until the afternoon. If your child will be given a locker at school, you might also want to pick up a lock although this could be something that's provided by the school.

Once you've gathered a set of basic school supplies, the only thing that will be left to arrange is their boys' or girls school uniform. However, just remember to order your child's uniforms well ahead of time, as could take a few weeks to arrive.
