Backyard Beekeeping Preparing Your Bees In The Changing Of Seasons

Honey bees are the type of bees raised in beekeeping

. Watching honey bees work and produce honey is such a rewarding hobby. But, if you want to make beekeeping a business, you need to devote more time in ensuring you have a working bee hive.

Proper timing is very important in beekeeping. The perfect time to raise bees to encompass huge amount of honey is during the spring season. This is because it is the time when the hive is most active. So, if you decide to buy your honey bees before the coming of the spring season, it is very important to protect and prepare your bees in the changing of the season. This way, you can ensure to have a successful backyard beekeeping.

During the cold weather, the colony will survive the winter by the process of population control. Since male worker bees have no business to do during the cold weather, they are being eliminated through the ole bee-boot. Because honey bees cannot go out in their hive, it is your duty to free the remaining population in the colony with the stored honey.

Bees cluster together during the winter season to stay warm. They also rotate places within the hive so that each will have his turn on the colder outer area and in the warmer inner area. To increase their body temperature, bees tend to consume honey and move in and out of the center. Some beekeepers that practice backyard beekeeping provide shelter for their honey bees. This is to protect the bees from wind and other extreme temperature brought about by the cold weather.

As the season changes, the activity inside the hive picks up. When the hive is too crowded, the bees begin to swarm and heads to find out new place to continue their business. This is where backyard beekeeping becomes interesting. As a beekeeper, you should know when to add new boxes or hives for your bees to keep them from swarming. You can also sell overstocked bees as another benefit of the hobby.

Backyard beekeeping can help you a lot in having more harvests in your vegetable garden. This is because your bees will help in the pollination of plants. Yet, to ensure you will get utmost benefit from your backyard beekeeping, sufficient knowledge in raising and protecting bees is one of the requirements.
