Bait Al Zubair Museum is a privately owned museum that showcases an impressive collection of everything from cannons and swords to jewellery, attire and cooking utensils. Previously the home of the prominent Al Zubair family, the museum is owned and run by them and mainly consists of their private collection of Omani artefacts that have been passed down the generations to become the most impressive privately owned collection today. The artefacts are spaced over three buildings using modern methods to assist visitors and create a welcoming atmosphere while preserving the architectural beauty and historical value of the house.

Detailed information regarding the Al Busaidi Dynasty including portraits of a number of Sultans, an extensive collection of Khanjars (Omani daggers), swords and traditional firearms, male and female attire, household utensils, traditional Muscat furniture and jewellery are some of the items on display. The adjoining house has been furbished to depict an ancient household complete with bedrooms, a guest lounge and a date store.

The Grand House has an impressive collection of maps, paintings and photographs of ancient Arabia and Oman as well as a collection of old cameras. The gardens house rock huts and a mock irrigation system. There are also temporary exhibitions and a library at the museum for more information. Wrap up at the caf over coffee and pay a visit to the gift shop which has one of the best collections of tourist souvenirs but might be a little pricier than the souqs though without the hassle of bargaining.
