Flat panel screens like LCD or plasma TVs have gone from just being a device to watch TV shows and films on to a wider, more commercial use. Digital out of home (Dooh) is a growing industry and encompasses all sorts of out of home use for commercial screens.

Digital signage is perhaps the most common of these out of home uses for outdoor screens. Digital advertising and information screens are now ubiquitous in shopping malls, retail parks, along high streets and in transport hubs.

Outdoor digital signage is part of this growing advertising and information medium and is prevalent in many cities and towns as advertisers begin to take advantage of this really noticeable and eye-catching form of outdoor media.

For information providers, such as transport companies, outdoor screens can relay information such as timetables and scheduled changes far more efficiently than traditional signage and the real time advantages mean that train and bus companies can even announce delays through the media.

While there is no denying the usefulness of outdoor screens for information and advertising, implementing a screen outdoors does require some thought into protecting the device before you can go ahead with your campaign.

Protection for outdoor digital signage and other outdoor TV screens involves three aspects:

Protection from the weather, including rain, snow, wind and direct sunlight

Protection from excessive temperatures, both extremely high and sub zero temperatures

Protection from physical impact either accidental or deliberate

The simplest method of ensuring a screen is able to cope with these outdoor elements is to house the device in an outdoor LCD enclosure. LCD enclosures are protective waterproof housings that are designed to accommodate almost any standard or commercial grade LCD or plasma screen.

Not only are LCD enclosures water and weatherproof but they contain all the climatic systems required to ensure the interior of the enclosure remains at a constant temperature no matter what the ambient temperature is doing.

The solid steel design is also able to withstand the hardiest of blows, either accidental or deliberate, deterring both vandals and thieves.
