Bathroom Remodeling For A Growing Home

Recent economic trends are focused have changed the bathroom remodeling industry over the last few years

. It wasn't uncommon to see bathroom remodels include soaking tubs, split vanities, a his and her closet, heated floor tiles, and chandeliers to top things off. Now lavish bathrooms have made way for modest and practical touches. The dynamics of a home have also transformed in a short time. Couples are staying in their house longer, kids are moving back in after college, and often in-laws are moving in. Many families have to unexpectedly cope with a growing family in a house that may not be prepared for an increase in size. A main concern is sharing a bathroom with multiple people.

An overcrowded bathroom can cause tension quickly. If the bathroom situation in your house becoming difficult to manage, it may be time for a bathroom remodel. Before, a bathroom remodel contained a wish list and was done to turn an outdated bathroom into a spa. In this case, the bathroom needs to be remodeled out of necessity and the budget may be smaller.

The easiest thing to do is add a new bathroom to your growing home, but it may take some time to save up enough for a bathroom addition. Here are some affordable remodels to handle the congestion in the meantime.

1. Water Closet - Having a separate water closet allows you to keep the vanity and shower available at all times. This way, the bathroom does not have to be unavailable every time someone is in the bathroom. If the bathroom is too small, you may be able to steal some square footage from a neighboring room or closet.

2. Double Vanities - If your home is older and has been neglected a bathroom makeover, it's likely there is a singly sink vanity. If space permits, a double vanity adds storage and creates two separate areas. This comes in handy if multiple family members are trying to get ready at the same time. Although they still have to share a bathroom, having your own sink can have a huge impact psychologically.

3. Second Water Heater - Installing a second water heater near your bathroom may help if more than one person is taking a shower in the morning or evening. This keeps the water at a stable temperature during transfer from heater to bathroom ensuring there is plenty of hot water for everyone. Water heaters are traditionally large cylindrical tanks and would be impractical, but now you can purchase water heaters that are tank less and only take up a small amount of wall space.

4. Linen Closet/Cabinet - Having a couple towels in the bathroom may not seem like a big deal, but with a few people using the same bathroom, towels can really start to add up and take up valuable space. If space permits, having a separate linen closet is a great way to organize clean and dirty towels. Adding storage is always great for resale as well.
