Welcome to a Laptop Battery specialist of the Acer Laptop Battery First post by: www.laptops-battery-online.comThe wind and solar energy fields are entering the lithium-ion age where advanced battery technology, from Corvus Energy, is suited for large on-grid power applications and intermittent renewable energy generation that these fields require.Corvus, based in Vancouver, Canada, initiated development of the technology in 2007 with a mission to build the world's most powerful batteries designed to scale to megawatt sizes. After three years of research, Corvus rolled out its first Titan batteries in 2010, which pack up to six times the energy capacity in the same volume at a quarter of the weight with a minimum of four times the lifespan of traditional batteries. The batteries fully function between -4F and 140F and have a minimum life cycle of 20 years."Corvus has made the theoretical possible," says Brent Perry, CEO, Corvus Energy. "The technology is safer and stronger than any other battery and it has an extended maintenance-free lifespan that makes the most economic sense of any battery solution today. It opens up entirely new ways of thinking about energy storage and distribution."The Corvus Titan series 6.2kWh lithium ion battery storage module is comprised of patented Dow Kokam lithium NMC (nickel-manganese-cobalt) polymer cells, combined with a Corvus Battery Management System (BMS) configured in an ultrasonically-sealed case. The cells contain no lithium metal and Dow Kokam's unique chemistry and manufacturing process generate a cell that has minimal internal resistance with more power and energy density than any other comparable battery types. Due to the extremely low internal resistance, the battery requires no external cooling in normal operation scenarios. The battery is 22% more powerful than the closest lithium ion competitor, and contains about 400% more energy than a similar sized lead acid battery such as Acer LCBTP03003 battery. This equates to a smaller footprint, less weight, and minimal infrastructure requirements. The BMS controls the charge and discharge algorithms to allow extremely high life cycles. At 100% depth of discharge (DOD) the battery will deliver 5,000 cycles. At lower DOD, it provides much higher numbers and lasts for generations. The BMS controls the active charging and discharging, and it continually monitors the internal components of the battery and transmits this data through a Can Bus communications port to an external monitor. This interface can be configured to transmit data wirelessly to a manager thousands of miles away via web, cellular, or satellite.Data output can be as simple as providing real time state of charge, or as complex as the cell-by-cell rate of charge/discharge of the entire array. The BMS simultaneously monitors the array and actively monitors every individual component of the system, allowing for the manager to know exactly what state the array is in. The entire system is actively controlled in real time so no more guesswork or complicated cell-by-cell balancing is required, according to Perry. The BMS also provides for a greater level of safety. It constantly monitors the module and array, and if anything electrically hazardous takes place, it will send a message to the manager to recommend service or it will cut power from the module to the battery bank. If a module is mechanically or electrically compromised, each cell is fused on the cathode and each module is internally fused. This, combined with the BMS and external circuit breakers, provides multiple levels of redundant safety shut off without any user input."The Corvus Energy lithium ion battery is truly a state of the art solution, ideally suited for large on-grid power applications or intermittent renewable energy generation," Perry says. "The low weight and small footprint also makes it a compatible design for off-grid applications."Corvus is currently developing a portable smart power sled which is a 60kW/hr array containing all the switch gear, converters, and inverters ready to drop into remote communities or into extreme case areas affected by natural disasters. A power sled, combined with an assortment of wind, solar PV, or diesel generating sources, could quickly provide emergency power to a damaged hospital, search and rescue operation, or DND command center. http://www.articlesbase.com/laptops-articles/batteries-knowlage-principles-basics-4487223.html
