Abandon your Ego - You have to not worry so much about what others think of you. Just learn to feel good about how you are progressing. Your focus should be on doing the workouts correctly. This will go into the next point.

Keep a journal - You will be able to see how far you have come. You will detect patterns of success and patterns that you need to change. It's also easy to start slacking off after you have been working out for a few weeks. You can take a picture of yourself at the end of every week. Seeing a photograph of yourself helps you get a truer idea of what you have accomplished. You can then guide your development this way. Ever found it easier to give advice to others? Your viewpoint is different - You are often able to stand outside the situation and advise. When you're swimming in the problem, you can't see it clearly. Journaling will enable you to see the big picture.

Consistency is key - Every workout that you complete with full engagement is like adding another brick to your castle. You can't make up a missed workout by training extra hard next time. You have to maintain consistency in order to get the results you want. Progress comes with expanding your workout to include what you didn't think you could do. These kinds of changes need to be added in a safe manner; don't change everything up at once.

Don't worry about a partner; many insist that having a partner is a good thing. At the same time, you can get dependent on that partner. Just go by yourself but make your own schedule. Don't let a friend's absence be the excuse of skipping your own workout. Doing exercises correctly is the most important thing - otherwise you won't progress like you should or you could get hurt. Go on youtube and study the form for each exercise. Then watch yourself in the mirror as you are doing the exercise.
