Being a Unique Affiliate Marketer

A lot of people are drawn to affiliate marketing. It's relatively simple business model is easy for most folks to duplicate and realize success. Because of that, the competition is clearly heating up. With increased competition comes the need for new strategies to stand out from the crowd. With more affiliate marketers out there, the odds are you have more people promoting the very same products, to the very same target market, and maybe even using the very same promotional website.

What does all that mean for you? It means you need some strategies to help you look and be unique. You need some business savvy to outsmart and outmaneuver other affiliate marketers in the same niche. Let me share with you four of the top strategies you can use to become the leading affiliate marketing star with a nice bottom line to go with it.

Strategy #1: Use Your Own Squeeze Page

The best way to brand yourself and rise above the crowd is to create your own squeeze page, or capture page. This is your very own site, offering a free gift of perceived high value to those who visit. In exchange for the free gift you ask them to give you their name and email address. (Some affiliate marketers are just asking for the email address and are claiming it gives them a higher optin rate. That's an entirely different subject, though. At the very least, you're capturing their email address. I'll leave the choice to you as to whether or not you ask for their name.)

Having your own capture page gives you the freedom to create your own look, your own feel, your own brand. You will use your own domain name, which can be more appealing than some long, ugly, hard to recognize affiliate link. You can use any choice of graphics and layout that will appeal to your audience.

Strategy #2: Create Your Own Advertising Content

When you become an affiliate for someone else's product, if the product developer/owner is any good, you will be given access to pre-written ads. You might see solo ads, banner ads, text ads, and any number of a variety of ads. Many lazy affiliates will merely copy and paste those resources out to their marketing outlets. If you happen to be using the same outlets, or end up marketing to the same people, you'll want your ads to stand out and be different. Not only that, but, of course, your advertising links are not sending the visitor directly to the product sales page. You are sending them to your own capture page (see Strategey #1). So, it only makes sense for your ads to be uniquely created just for you.

Strategy #3: Provide Your Own Related Products

If you are an affiliate for the hottest products, then people coming to your site will eventually see the same product sales page that every other affiliate marketer is offering, too. It helps boost your sales when you can offer additional, related products of your own. They might be products that support, or fill in a gap, or add tremendous value to the original product offering. You could add them as bonuses, or upsells after the first sale has been made. The key is to provide something that no one else is offering. The best way to do that is to create it yourself!


Strategy #4: Build Trust and a Close Relationship

The primary reason you will use Strategy #1 (see above), is to continue the conversation with people who visit your site in the first place. You want to be able to communicate with them and develop a bond with them. Sure, you can use your email list to answer questions or provide additional benefits of your original offering. But, you can also give more information, provide additional resources, or share new perspectives about the niche. All of this helps to establish a bond of trust and deepens the relationship you have with those people. The more trust and the deeper the relationship, the more likely people will buy from you.

One of the best ways to do this is to provide some kind of helpful tips, or maybe a series of lessons, related to the product you have presented to them. You might be describing the best ways to use the product, or offer unique applications of it. You might even offer a support service using video screen captures of you using the product. Anything to let your list members know that you are continuing to provide high quality, high value information and/or services.

And don't be afraid to be honest about the product you are promoting. If there are flaws, or problems, or worse, let your list members know that too. Nothing quite like a healthy dose of reality to give confidence to your readers and strengthen your own credibility.
