There is no material mercury used in these bulbs.
They use only 2-10 watts of electricity as compared to min 40 watts by one single metal filament bulb or 1/3 rd of CFL. That is why the battery life is 10 to 15 times longer than any other light source.

As they consume less space as compared to other sources such as CFL or metal filament type, in the place of one such light, even hundreds can be shipped from one place to another at the same or a little more weight, thus commercial economics are also an attraction for the manufacturers. This further requires less storage space. Altogether, it brings a saving of more than 100% on commercial scale moving, shipping and storing.
