. By continuing their growth a leader helps the team that they are in charge of but also helps the individual. There are many different ways that this type of development can take place and it hinges on the amount of time the person seeking development has but also the style they want.

Any endeavor that improves leadership quality in an individual or team would be leadership development. The endeavor can be a class at a college or university, a group symposium, web class, or group activity. The activity will likely be in a setting that allows for interaction between the people involved to allow for sharing of each person's experience.

For someone to really have the leadership development be effective they must not just learn it but they must apply it as well. Learning a new communication method is one thing but actually applying it and using it to communicate with their team is another. Since each person is different there may be times that developmental activities will work for one person but not another.

A couple of the most common factors that will probably be dealt with in developing the personal side of the leader will include interpersonal relationships and team dynamics. The key component of both of these traits is how the leader interacts with their team. By improving in the way that the leader interacts with their team there is a good chance that the results generated by that team will see gains as well.


Work methods and the goals of the organization are two other areas that a leader will look to develop. Having the goals properly set, plan execution analyzed, and organization vision are some of the common areas that a leader will look to focus on during development as well.

Without having the appropriate goals the team may be shortchanging their results. Proper execution of the plan is vital to the team, proper communication and follow up are keys to this. Anytime that the leader and team do not share the same vision of the organization that group is not optimized. Learning how to share that vision with the team is something that almost every leader can benefit from.

By focusing on leadership development a leader can improve their personal skills but also help improve the way that the team performs. As a leader someone must have a good deal of patience and be willing to work at refining processes. By doing this and properly communicating the leader can help a team become very efficient and effective.
