Business Crisis - How to Save Face and Save Your Business

Something that will inevitably happen in any business is that eventually you will run into some sort of problem.

Maybe you'll run out of your product, maybe you won't perform up to par on the promises that you or your business makes, but whatever happens, there are a few things that you MUST do in the envent of a crisis to keep yourself or your business from losing credibility.

The first thing that you should do is make it known to anyone who would be concerned as soon as you know that there is a problem.

Transparency is a virtue when it comes to business ethics, and people will really appreciate you a lot more if you're forthcoming with any problems that you have.

Will this mean that there won't be repercussions to those problems? No, of course not...But in general those repercussions are much shorter lived, and people will have a tendency to say "Well it's stupid that X problem happened, but at least they were honest about it."

A good way to lose face is to delay notifying people about any problems you have with your business.

Another thing that you should make sure that you do, if you want to make sure and keep public relations damage to a minimum, is to come up with a solution to any crisis that you might be having immediately.

In addition, you should make sure that your solution is helpful. You can completely negate any crisis that you might be having if you take the time to come up with a solution that's effective...

Nothing makes people happier than being taken care of!

There are always scandals in the news, and you should take some time to learn from them. For example, one recent scandal has been that of Tiger Woods.

Now, Tiger broke both of those rules that I just listed, but imagine if he hadn't. What if, instead of being dishonest and hesitating, he had come forward immediately and confessed to his infidelity?

What if he hadn't given all those women the chance to come forward to the media, and had instead called them out first, or listed a number of women that he'd been with? Then when each of the women had come to the media confessing that they'd been with Tiger, it wouldn't have been nearly as scandalous, because he'd already been honest about the number of women he'd been with.

Additionally, what if he had immediately apologized for his actions and promised to go to rehabilitation? It would have made a big difference in how the public viewed him, I think!

Take that into consideration when/if your business ever has some sort of big crisis...Learn from the mistakes of others!
