Camping Water Filters

There are several kinds of filters that you can use when you're

tackling the great outdoors. Pump filters bring in water as you pump

its lever, filters out the harmful materials, and then empties clean

water into a bottle. This is good if you need water to cook with in

addition to drinking water. If you're only going to drink, you might

want to try a water bottle filter. With a water bottle filter, you

simply fill up the bottle with water from a lake or stream, and then

when you turn the bottle upside-down as you drink, the water passes

through a filter and is purified before it goes into your mouth.

There are also larger models of camping water filters, such as the

base camp filter, which has a capacity of several gallons. What you

do is fill up the filter portion of this device, hang it from, say a

tree branch, so that the water will flow down through a tube and

through a filtering mechanism and then collect at the bottom.

Ultraviolet filters, or UV sanitizers, on the other hand let out

ultraviolet light and will kill any microorganisms within a given

sample of water. You could also treat your water with iodine tablets,

but these often will not get rid of every harmful substance or

particle within your water. Finally, you could boil your water

instead of using a filter, but that takes a lot of time and effort

that you might rather spend on fun camping activities.
