Capita And Serco Are Shortlisted For New Recruitment Contract
Private outsourcing giants Capita and Serco are among those on the shortlist for
a new Ministry of Defence (MoD) recruitment contract, a report has claimed.
According to the Financial Times, the successful applicant will be tasked with the job of signing up 9,000 soldiers each year and the deal will also encompass areas ranging from marketing to training. This news comes shortly after it was announced that the department is facing an 8% cut of its annual budget, which stands at 37bn.
However, the MoD insisted that it would continue looking to recruit more than 9,000 soldiers annually, stating: The Recruiting Partnering Project is an initiative to both meet the numbers we need and to reduce the fall-out rate in training and improve retention.
It is understood that the recruitment contract will be the first in a series of deals aimed at mitigating the impact of government spending cuts on the military. Some of the MoDs administrative and financial functions have also been put out to tender to take advantage of outsourcing opportunities.
Last month, Babcock chief executive Peter Rogers described the outsourcing potential likely to arise as a result of MoD cutbacks as significant, and suggested that contracts worth as much as 8bn could be up for grabs some time soon. This represents an exciting time for the outsourcing industries and shows a serious cash injection to improving opportunities.
Capita is one of the UKs largest outsourcing companies, delivering various different back office functions, as well as front office customer service. Working with both private and public sector bodies, Capita is continually influencing the outsourcing industry, and could now do so even more, if awarded with the said recruitment contract.
On the other hand, Serco is an international company, similarly working with both local and national governments in various different public sectors, such as health, education, and transport. However, they dont only work with companies in the public sector, as they often work with organisations in the private sector, too.
The world of outsourcing is continually growing and evolving, as a result of an increasing number of companies outsourcing their operations. Not only this but as technology develops, the benefits to be reaped through outsourcing work, even if its only the back office functions of the company, can be significant. The amount of time that can be saved by outsourcing all sorts of jobs is paramount to optimizing the running of the business and can save a great deal of money.
