. The IT sector plays a huge role in powering the nations innovation and productivity. According to Microsofts research, the IT market is set to grow, with an estimated 2,500 new businesses and 78,200 new jobs by 2013. So, now is definitely the time to join the IT sector.

The variation of jobs available within the IT sector is great. Possible jobs include; third party trading systems, application support, business analysis, business intelligence and many more. Third party trading is a method of trading stocks and bonds electronically. In this role you will use IT to bring together buyers and sellers through electronic trading platforms and networks. Most third party trading jobs are within the city and require the following skills; strong analytical skills, strong rates and fixed income exposure, the ability to deliver a large system implementation and the ability to upgrade projects, as well as accounting experience.

Application support is a position for a technical analyst and usually involves supporting application and maintenance. If you are considering a career in application support a strong background in technical analysis and design in a windows/SQL environment is a must.

Business analysis is about quantifying risks and improving return on investment. Aspects of the role include conducting assessments of processes and data to detail requirements, alongside analysing and modelling relevant business processes, rules and data relationships.

Business intelligence is a computer-based technique that is used to identify, extract and analyse business data. This can include, but is not exclusive to, sales revenue by products, departments and associated costs and incomes. As a part of this role you would be expected to provide historical, current and predictive views of business operations. It is the aim of business intelligence to support better business decision-making.

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) is a company-wide computer software system used to manage and coordinate all the resources, information and functions of a business from shared data store. The role of an ERP employee is to view a company as a whole and to ensure that all of its parts are working correctly.

A project manager is accountable for the success of his or her assigned project and is the single point of authority for all related decisions. Responsibilities for a project manager usually include managing the relationship between the client and the suppliers, implementing a quality program within the project, preventing escalation of issues and ensuring the delivery of the project plan and maintaining the budget.
