Chilli Pepper Pete - Some New Products
Chilli Pepper Pete is one of those brands that have been around when most people in the UK didn't even know about chillies other than the random bland ones available at their supermarkets. For more than ten years now Chilli Pepper Pete has been educating the masses at most UK chilli shows such as Brighton Food Festival, West Dean Chilli Fiesta and more recently Levens Hall Chilli Fest.
Originally keen to bring various new types of chillies to the UK, Chilli Pepper Pete ended up with so much stock that he just had to do something with it. That's when he decided that his passion should be more than a hobby. He has since made it his personal crusade to go where no man has gone before and create unbelievable chilli produce like his Liquid Fire made with 20 chilli varieties marinated for 3 months in vinegar, with a little garlic, salt and sugar.
Many now famous hot sauces followed such as the Headhunter trilogy using the ever so popular naga chilli. Red Naga Headhunter is in turn hot, fruity and fresh-tasting, a little gem in its own right whereas Chilli Pepper Pete's Blue Naga Headhunter is a twist on a traditional Middle Eastern pesto using coriander as its base. The Green Naga Headhunter will instantly transport you to another world of sunny beaches, lazy afternoons and thrilling parties thanks to its fascinating blend of fruitiness and spices, fired up with the jati jolokia naga chilli pepper from Assam. Our personal favourite is Dragon Hunter made with the smoky Chipotle chilli which goes with just about anything. We even have a good glug of it on its own when nobody is watching!
The great thing about Chilli Pepper Pete is that he takes calculated risks that always pay off. When most people import hot sauces from the US, Chilli Pepper Pete creates Satan's Shit or Sphincter Shrinker! When the majority of us are just about trying to handle the heat from a Scotch Bonnet, he goes and creates the notorious evil twins i.e Dragon's Blood (Batch 13 being even more scorching hot!) made with notes of apples and pineapple and Dragon's Slayer intriguingly made with cherries, blueberries and prunes. These two concoctions also possess a hell of a kick thanks to some chilli extract!
After setting up such a good product base, Chilli Pepper Pete then went all out and brought to the UK fantastic new creations such as Just Scotch Bonnets, a great Thai Green Curry Paste, his Fiery Jamaican Chutney as well as a devilish Chilli Chocolate Sauce and a Roast Garlic and Green Jalapeno Hot Sauce that just makes us salivate thinking about it.
We were absolutely amazed by Chilli Pepper Pete's Piri Piri Oil although we kind of thought he had lost the plot when we saw how many chillies he actually put in the bottle. This quickly turned out to be a fantastic advantage though as once you have used up all the oil all you have to do is pour some more into the bottle and let the chillies do all the work to flavour it in no time!
It is no wonder that Chilli Pepper Pete has bagged himself many prestigious awards over the years as he really is a creative and slightly nutty chilli freak. We really can't wait to see what else he has got in store for 2011!
