With the development of manufacturing, the requirements of spare parts miniaturization
and precision become higher, which brings more needs for mold machining accuracy. Some mold machining accuracy is limited within 1m, so it is necessary to develop super-finishing. There are micron precision machining used for motorcar, aircraft and precision machinery; the sub-micron (0.01m) precision machining for disk and drum manufacturing; and the nanometer (0.001m) precision machining for ultra-precision electronic devices.
The increasingly large scale and high productivity of molding parts require one mold with multi-cavity, and a few tons even dozens of tons of molds are very common, so one mold has hundred cavities or even thousands of cavities. Therefore the devices must have the characteristics of large load-bearing, high rigidity and also large enough table size and corresponding work schedule, which can make the work table of machine tool enduring large weight. In addition, most mold cavities are composed of complex six surfaces space and grooves, even many molds have deep hole, which requires the machine tools should have multi-axis linkage and well integrated cutting capabilities of deep cavity in order to achieve high-precision, high-speed and high-stability processing for 3D curved surface. High rotate speed and high-power speed processing are the development trend, and the high-speed milling has showed great superiority in mold manufacture. In order to suit the curved surface processing of mold cavity, the cutter radius should be less than the minimum circle radius of the curved surface to avoid the interference between cutter and the workpiece in the processing. Since the cutter diameter is small, the spindle speed needs to be very high. The spindle rotate speed of foreign machine has reached 40,000 ~ 100,000 r/min. The rough and fine processing of cavities, mold parts and other components are often finished in a single clamping of the workpiece, so the main spindle power should be large, for example, the spindle power of medium-size molds milling machine and machining center are often in 10 ~ 40kW, and some even higher. To adapt the complex curved surface processing and large scale processing capacity, the machine tools are required to have multi-axis linkage, and the CNC system with a large information capacity.
